Scores for meeting small beings

These texts stem from an artistic research on outdoor participatory performances, ecology, and ethical ways of human-non-human interaction.

In part, they are connected to I find my lovers anywhere.

Find a small being. Don’t choose a fast one. Once you decide on one, follow it for at least a minute. If it decides to take a rest and sit somewhere, wait with it.

Find a small being. Choose a fast one. Once you decide on one, follow it for at least five minutes. If it decides to take a rest and sit somewhere, wait with it.

Find a small being. Observe its movement for some time. Try to move your body the same way. Find ways to make up for your limited amount of body parts. Don’t try to become the small being, because you won’t. Try to imagine a piece of its reality by feeling its movement in your body.

Find a dead small being. Take it in your hand. Is it soft? Is it crisp? Do you feel any weight at all? Is it moved by a breeze or when you gently blow on it? Does it stick to your hand? Can you gain any idea of how long it might have lived? Or how and why it might have died? Place it somewhere and leave.

Wait around for a small being that actively seeks for interaction with you. What kind of activity might it respond to? Can you lead it somewhere, without touching it? How can you keep its attention?

Find a small being that is completely disinterested in you. Expose yourself to this situation. Try to imagine what of you the small being perceives and why you might be not interesting. Get over it and carry on.

Find a small being of a kind of which there seem to be many at the place where you are. Observe the small being for at least ten minutes. Try to recognise patterns and characteristics. Find another small being of the same kind. Observe it for at least ten minutes. Try to recognise patterns and characteristics and compare them to those of the first one.

Find a small being that is attractive to you. Observe it, look at it. What do you find attractive about it? Is there something you would like the small being to do to you? Is there something you would like to do with the small being? How would you ask for consent?

Find a small being. Imagine you would be the same size. How do you think you would behave towards each other? How would you want it to behave towards you? How would you want to behave towards it?
